In the first picture above are four giant local avocado 🥑 varieties that were bought On 31/12/2021 being weighed. The average weight of each avocado 🥑 fruit was was found to be 1kg. It is worth noting that Uganda is exporting to UK local avocado varieties when the Hass avocados are off season. Therefore as the Avocado industry evolves in Zambia 🇿🇲, identifying some good local varieties that require to be promoted both for root stock Development, export and Avocado value addition shall take a center stage.
In the middle picture in a blue cap 🧢 is Engineer BERNARD Chiwala explaining to visitors about the grafted Hass Avocado 🥑 tree that was grafted in March 2021 at Moriah Gardens. The avocado seed was directly planted in the ground and grafted
in March this year. The tree is now 1.65m above ground. Unlike growing the seeds in 6L black plastics where root Development is confined within a small area, Direct planting of seeds in the ground provide enough space for the roots to flourish and ultimately the plant 🌱 itself.
In the third picture is Engineer Engineer Chiwala BERNARD explaining to the visitors who came to Moriah Gardens on New Year’s Eve (31/12/2021) on the critical role that good soil preparation plays in propagating robust Avocado rootstocks. Robust avocado 🥑 root stocks contribute immensely towards the success rate one gets of grafted plants.
